How does spending time with your children help the environment?

The average child growing up in Canada spends between 4 and 6 hours a day in front of the television and the computer.  These media outlets expose our children to a constant barrage of advertisements and impose consumer values.  More and more, children are becoming obsessed with the things money can buy.  But do they understand the cost to the environment of this excess consumerism? 

This is where the parents come in.  Spoil your children with your undivided attention.  A parent's love and attention is what a child craves the most.  If parents don't fill a child's need for affection and information, the child will resort to pop-culture and media outlets to fill their needs.  Give your children what they need and seize the opportunity to teach them your values and share your life's passions.  Your family will be better for it and so will the environment.
